Optimal Bleeding Management

Severe bleedings can occur intra- or postoperative.

They can be life-threatening and require prompt action. A fast differential diagnosis is the basis of a target-oriented therapy.

Whole blood diagnostics

ROTEM® analysis from patient whole blood provides rapid information on products required such as:

  • antifibrinolytics
  • fibrinogen
  • platelet concentrates
  • PCC
  • FFP (fresh frozen plasma)
  • cryoprecipitate

ROTEM® provides detailed information from whole blood diagnostics of the real needs for blood products!

Efficient patient blood management

Saving patients’ lives through the provision of adequate treatment with blood product transfusions such as fresh frozen plasma (FFP), packed red blood cells (PRBC, RBC) or thrombocyte concentrates (platelets) is the major benchmark for the blood banks performance. However, balancing transfusion risks, blood conservation and cost saving, also forms an important part of effective bleeding management.

Optimised transfusion strategy

The ROTEM® system helps the selection of an optimised transfusion strategy in several cases of coagulopathy, in particular for haemorrhage and diffuse post-operative bleeding. It is also an efficient tool for therapy monitoring and adjustment. Massive transfusions for trauma patients can be predicted directly on admission and transfusion volumes can be significantly reduced.
