Effective bleeding management

Fast and effective bleeding management is one of the most vital challenges for the anaesthetist in intensive care medicine. Specific strategies may vary from cardiac and vascular surgery to tumor resection or transplantation, orthopaedic surgery, trauma care or obstetrics. Nevertheless, modern trauma management generally recognizes that whilst blood and blood products are potentially beneficial for patient care, they also pose substantial potential risks.

Lower risk for thrombotic events

Blood saving in surgical procedures should therefore be accompanied by optimized treatment and blood transfusion strategies. This helps to rapidly achieve balanced haemostasis post-operatively with a lower risk for thrombotic events.

Reduced blood transfusion volumes

ROTEM® based diagnostics and treatment control through individualized therapy have been shown to reduce blood transfusion volumes and to offer cost savings. ROTEM® is especially useful in (hyper)fibrinolysis, a coagulation disorder hardly detectable by other methods. It is the ideal tool to assess the efficiency of several coagulation factors, including fibrinogen and to guide the administration of corresponding factor concentrates.
